Aspire Coil Families Overview

Aspire has built its reputation on devices that suit mouth-to-lung (MTL) vapers, particularly people switching from cigarettes. Rather than using one universal coil format, Aspire produces several distinct coil families, each engineered for a specific product line.

The coil families you will encounter most often at UK Vape World are:

• BVC (Bottom Vertical Coil) - for the original Nautilus series including Nautilus 2 and Nautilus 2S
• Nautilus mesh coils - for the Nautilus Prime and Nautilus Prime X
• BP coils - for BP80, BP60, and related pod-mod hybrid kits
• Gotek replacement pods - sealed pod units with built-in coils for the Gotek and Gotek X
• Cleito coils - for the Cleito sub-ohm tank (now older but still widely used)

BVC Coils: The Classic MTL Option

The Bottom Vertical Coil design, known as BVC, is one of the most iconic coil formats in UK vaping history. BVC coils are threaded and screw into the base of the tank. The main resistance options are:

Nautilus Mesh Coils

Introduced with the Nautilus Prime, Nautilus mesh coils use a flat mesh heating element rather than the traditional wire-wound coil of the BVC range. Mesh provides a larger contact surface area and more even heat distribution, which translates into more consistent flavour and a faster response when you fire the device.

Nautilus mesh coils are available in two main options:

• 1.0 ohm mesh - the most popular choice for MTL vapers on the Prime series, best run at 14 to 18W. Delivers clean, accurate flavour with a satisfying throat hit at 10 to 20mg nic salt.
• 0.7 ohm mesh - runs at 20 to 25W, provides a warmer draw that sits between a tight MTL and a restricted direct-to-lung style

BP Coils for Pod-Mod Kits

The BP coil range was developed for Aspire's newer pod-mod hybrid devices, primarily the BP80 and BP60. These coils press into the base of the pod cartridge and can be swapped individually without discarding the pod itself, which makes them more economical over time than fully sealed pod systems.

BP coil options include:

• BP 1.0 ohm - MTL coil suited to nic salts, best run at 12 to 15W, produces a tight, flavour-focused draw
• BP 0.3 ohm mesh - versatile option sitting between MTL and DTL, best at 35 to 55W, suits freebase nicotine at 3 to 6mg
• BP 0.2 ohm mesh - full sub-ohm coil for direct-to-lung use, best at 50 to 80W, produces dense vapour clouds

BP coils are only compatible with the BP-series devices. They will not fit any Nautilus, Gotek, or Cleito product.

Gotek and Gotek X Pods

The Aspire Gotek and Gotek X are compact pod kits designed specifically for new vapers and those transitioning from cigarettes. Both devices are stocked by UK Vape World and are popular choices for beginners due to their simplicity and draw-activated firing - no buttons required.

Rather than a separate coil that screws or presses into a tank, the Gotek uses sealed replacement pods that have the coil built directly into the pod body. Gotek X replacement pods are available in:

• 1.2 ohm - suited to nicotine salts at 10 to 20mg, provides a tight MTL draw close to a cigarette

Gotek pods are not interchangeable with any other Aspire coil format. The Gotek and Gotek X also use different pod designs from each other, so make sure you select pods specifically labelled for your model.

Wattage Tips by Coil Type

Running a coil outside its recommended wattage range is the fastest way to shorten its life. Too low and the coil never fully heats, resulting in a cold, muted draw and possible flooding. Too high and you risk burning the cotton wick, which ruins flavour and means replacing the coil far sooner than necessary.

For BVC coils

Start at the lower end of the recommended range and work up in 1W increments until you find the flavour level you prefer. Most vapers using the 1.8 ohm BVC for a cigarette-like experience are happy at around 4 to 5W. The 0.7 ohm mesh BVC performs best around 15 to 16W.

For Nautilus mesh coils

The 1.0 ohm mesh coil performs very well at 16W as a starting point. If the draw feels too cool, nudge up to 17 or 18W. Avoid exceeding 18W as the coil begins to degrade faster above this level. The 0.7 ohm mesh can handle up to 25W but most vapers report best flavour at around 22W.

For BP coils

The 1.0 ohm BP coil suits low-wattage pod use at 12 to 15W. The 0.3 ohm mesh works well at 40W as a starting point, while the 0.2 ohm is a genuine sub-ohm coil that requires 50W or more to perform correctly. Make sure your BP80 or BP60 device is set to an appropriate mode for the coil resistance in use.

When buying Aspire coils, a few practical points will save you time and money:

• Always buy at least a pack of five - individual coils are rarely sold, and having spares means you are never caught short when a coil burns out unexpectedly
• Check the resistance before you buy - if you vape nic salts and prefer a tight draw, stay at 1.0 ohm or above. Sub-ohm options are for lower-nicotine freebase e-liquids only.
• Match your e-liquid PG/VG ratio to the coil type - high-VG e-liquids (70VG and above) are too thick for most MTL coils and will cause dry hits. Stick to 50/50 or high-PG liquids for BVC and Nautilus mesh coils.
